I’ll not be a Minister who will be afraid to fine Telcos for poor services – Sam George

Communications Minister-Designate, Sam George has given a strong indication that he will crack the whip to ensure that quality voice services is provided to Ghanaian customers.

According to him, the Communication Ministry through the regulatory body will introduce policies that will ensure that the MNOs perform better.

However, as the government supports the MNOs, KPIs will be enhanced.

He added that with the government’s support, he would not hesitate to fine MNOs that fail to meet KPIs set for them.

“As Minister-Designate I think no. I think that there is a lot of work that the telcos have to do some work because for you to get better quality you need to allocate more spectrum to the MNOs.

If approved by this house, one of the things we will do is make more spectrum available, however, we will be raising the KPIs and ensuring that the standards are met.

I will not be a Minister who will be afraid to impose fines on MNOs who fail to meet the quality of service. Ghanaians deserve the best quality of service and we would crack the whip where necessary but we will also support the MNOs to ensure they get what is needed to provide us the best quality of service,” he told the Appointments Committee on January 30, 2025.
