I will still play a ‘bad girl’ role if the story has a positive impact – Martha Ankomah
Renowned Ghanaian actress Martha Ankomah has shared her perspective on playing “bad girl” roles in films.
In an interview with Adom TV aired on August 13, 2024, she explained that she would take on “bad girl” roles if the overall story has a positive impact.
She compared it to the role of Judas in movies about Jesus Christ, noting that while Judas is often seen as the villain, his actions were central to the story.
Ankomah explained that if a role has the potential to positively influence someone’s life, she would not hesitate to play it, even if it meant portraying a negative character.
“Judas is usually represented as the bad one, so the children don’t like him, but as we grow, we see that the actions of Judas made the actions on the story of Jesus. His role was central to the story.
“So for me, it depends on the story, if the story is going to have a positive impact and I have to play the bad girl just to change someone’s life for the better, I would do it,” she said.
Addressing potential backlash from viewers, she stated that her primary concern is the positive impact of her work and that acting is her livelihood.
“It doesn’t matter, this is what I do for a living, this is what pays my bills, as long as what I do can change the life of someone. I don’t mind,” she added.
