It’s been 64 days since Akuffo Addo threatened to sue Aljazeera. Why hasn’t he sued?

The explosive gold Mafia documentary aired in april 2023. The documentary named President Nana Akuffo Addo as the President who allowed Alastair Mathias to smuggle Ghana’s gold out of Ghana.

The explosive documentary gripped the nation, many citizens could not believe the jaw dropping expose that Aljazeera uncovered fingering the President as being part of a money laundering and gold smuggling gang, the proceeds of which were kept in Dubai.

Mr. Mathias mentioned in the documentary that he’s friends with Nana Addo, he also used to be the biggest smuggler in Ghana at one point, raking in about $40 million to $60 million worth of gold a month from Ghana.

The president’s lawyers first tried to deny the allegations and attempted to pin it on former President Mahama but unfortunately the propaganda fell flat.

In the face of public backlash, President Akufo Addo’s lawyers resorted to threats, running helter-skelter to issuing a warning to Aljazeera for a retraction and an apology.

“parts of the documentary are malicious, defamatory, and a calculated attempt to tarnish the reputation of the President and Government of Ghana.” The president’s statement said

The President’s lawyers issued a 7 day ultimatum for the retraction and an apology, but Aljazeera, neither retracted nor apologised. Instead they respond to the president’s letter privately that they would not apologise or retract.

Details of Aljazeera’s response to the President and his lawyers are sitting on a desk at the jubilee house gathering dust.

If the content of the response from Aljazeera was favourable, the party foot soldiers would have plastered every space available with it.

After 64 days of no action from President Akufo Addo and his Vice Dr. Mahmoudu Bawumia despite Aljazeera refusing to retract or apologise, it is safe for Ghanaians to assume that the President, voted for by Ghanaians is actively involved in smuggling its gold and laundering the money abroad.

This corrupt, shameful and illegal act is contrary to his public utterances of “putting my” presidency on the line”

The only option for the President, Nana Akufo Addo to escape the mass corruption and rape of the Ghanaian purse by the President and his Vice through smuggling of gold and money laundering.
