Since 2018, Ed Sheeran has consistently been the most played artist in the UK, with the exception of 2020, when Dua Lipa briefly overtook him.
According to recent data from music licensing organization PPL, Ed Sheeran was the most played musician in the UK last year.
With “Bad Habits”, the star also had the year’s most-played song.
Sheeran has been named the most played artist in the UK for the fourth time in five years based on radio, television, plays in bars, clubs, and retail establishments.
With Shape Of You, for which he recently won a copyright case in the High Court, the artist last topped the most-played song chart in 2017.
According to PPL CEO Peter Leatham, Sheeran’s sustained success is “a credit to the quality of his output [and] the power of UK music at a time when the global music environment is more competitive than ever.”
The second and third most played songs of 2021 belonged to the artist, who was recently admitted to the hospital after being attacked in New York.
By Your Side, his Calvin Harris collaboration, came in second, followed by Little Bit of Love, his solo track, in third.
