Converting to Islam has restricted me; I’m suffering – Akuapem Poloo laments

Akuapem Poloo, a Ghanaian actress and internet sensation, recently talked about her own path of converting to Islam from Christianity and the particular difficulties she faced.

Poloo discussed her difficulties adjusting to Islam, which forbids several practices that she was used to as a Christian, in an interview with Sammy Kay. She discussed the challenges she experiences in balancing the new rules set forth by her faith with her previous habits.

Poloo said that going to the mosque greatly changed her outlook on life and conduct, making it difficult for her to continue doing the crazy dances and twerking that were a part of her old identity.

Her attempt to connect her behaviors with her newly discovered religious views has been hampered by this internal conflict between her past and current self.

Despite the difficulties, Poloo said that accepting Islam has given her new opportunities. The National Chief Imam is a respected member of the Islamic community, and she expressed her tremendous delight in finally realizing her lifelong desire of meeting him. She got the opportunity to interact with the Chief Imam as a result of her conversion, which gave her a tremendous feeling of fulfillment.

Poloo also related a particular occasion in which being a Muslim resulted in respect and a special invitation to the Suhum Odwira Festival. She had a rare chance to meet prominent people at this cultural event, including Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the vice-president of Ghana.
