Bernard Mornah heads to court over Presidential disqualification by EC
The Presidential Candidate aspirant on the ticket of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Bernard Mornah, is considering going to court over the decision by the Electoral Commission (EC) to disqualify him from the 2024 presidential race.
It would be recalled that the Chairperson of the EC, Mrs Jean Mensa held a press conference in Accra on Friday afternoon (September 20, 2024), explaining the reason why about 11 out of the 24 aspirants were disqualified.
According to the EC, the disqualified persons were disqualified for various reasons including incomplete filling of the forms, using voters in a particular district to represent another district, repeating voters in a particular district for another district, not having tax certificates, vice presidential candidates not having tax certificates, unsigned forms by Vice Presidential Candidates among others.
During an interview with Nana Yaa Brefo, Bernard Mornah disclosed that during the time of Dr Kwadwo Afari Gyan the former EC Chairman, there was transparency. He said that his disqualification was not transparent hence his decision to take legal action.
“When Afari Gyan was the Electoral Commission Chairman, after filling the forms, he sat us down, went through the forms with us. Whatever errors and inadequacies and where you fall short, you are shown but this EC just went to hide the forms and claimed there are errors in your forms and they don’t specify.”
“I am taking legal actions against them. Because this same incident happened in 2016 and we took it to court and we were re-instated back on the ballot.” He disclosed
He added that he can’t fight the EC physically so he will use legal means to fight them.
