Bawumia to Mahama: Reverse unfair revocation of appointments

Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has called on President John Dramani Mahama to reverse the revocation of appointments made after December 7, 2024.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday February 19, Bawumia criticised the Mahama government for targeting Ghanaians who were legitimately employed during the previous administration, leading to widespread job losses.
“It is ironic that a party which campaigned on the wings of jobs for all Ghanaians is arbitrarily dismissing the same Ghanaians, rendering them jobless,” Bawumia stated.
He expressed concern that the dismissals have extended to public servants and not just political appointees, with some individuals losing their jobs solely due to their association with politicians.
Bawumia highlighted reports of the government’s intention to terminate appointments of critical job personnel, including security personnel, nurses, and teachers, appointed during the previous administration. He warned that such actions would be most unfortunate and detrimental to Ghana’s development.
Furthermore, Bawumia lamented the general atmosphere of insecurity in the country, citing attacks on journalists, military raids on homes of former government officials and communities, and mob attacks on innocent individuals and state institutions.
He described these incidents as reminiscent of a military takeover rather than a peaceful democratic transition.
“This is rather reminiscent of a military takeover and not a peaceful democratic transition,” Bawumia asserted.
He urged President Mahama to take immediate action to protect democratic institutions and practices, emphasising that Ghanaians had hoped for change that would discard the ills associated with governance since 1992.
“There is no reset by repeating or escalating what may have happened in the past,” Bawumia continued. He called on President Mahama to be a president for all Ghanaians by stopping the dismissals and protecting the livelihoods of all citizens.
