Akufo-Addo swallows pride and directs Finance Minister to go to IMF as E-Levy fails
Akufo-Addo has swallowed his pride as Ghana heads to IMF to help rescue the country’s economy.
President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has directed Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta to engage IMF for support as Ghana’s economy continues to fail.
This move will surely received public backlash as the government promised not to go to IMF for bailout when they were pushing for the introduction of E-Levy.
The government actually gave Ghanaians of accepting E-Levy or going to IMF for bailout but same government is now going to IMF despite moving Heaven and Earth to pass the E-levy.
Another reason the government will be criticized is their history of criticizing the former Mahama government when they ran to IMF after mismanaging the economy.
Going to IMF comes with conditions which could be freezing of employment in the public sector and canceling some pro-poor policies of the government.
