Akosua Agyapong may have been bribed to attack me – Rex Omar

Ghanaian highlife musician and Chairman of the Ghana Music Rights Organization  (GHAMRO) has hit back at ‘Frema’ singer Akosua Agyapong for claiming that he has done nothing for the organisation.

Speaking to Kwame Dadzie of Citi FM in an interview, he said he is convinced to believe rumours that Akosua has been bribed to talk ill about him.

“I heard rumours that Akosua had taken money to come at me, I didn’t believe it but with the tangent she is going now, I am tempted to believe it is true,” he said.

Rex Omar added that Akosua has now shifted her concerns with GHAMRO to real politics.

“I thought Akosua was an NDC but for her to go this way, I am beginning to believe the rumours. Akosua Agyapong’s issue is a special one because of her relationship with me. This is a person that the next time she is on stage with me, she will not ask me anything, she goes and sits somewhere and spew blatant lies about me,” he reiterated.

Akosua, a fierce critic of Rex’s administration had said in an interview on Accra FM that Rex has consistently criticised the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo but he has not been able to improve the royalties system in the country.

“Rex Omar is always trying to discredit Akufo-Addo, but what has he (Rex Omar) done for musicians as the Chairman of GHAMRO?” she asked.

She said Rex Omar, who is also a staunch member of the National Democratic Congress is the worst chairman the collective management organisation has ever had.

“As for Rex, I will say it again and again that among all of them, Rex is the worst GHAMRO chairman ever,” she stated.

“When Carlos was in charge, you (Rex Omar) were on social media platforms criticizing, and so, we thought given the chance, you will do better. Rather the situation is gone from bad to worse,” Akosua she added.

The 4th Annual General Meeting of the Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO) will be held Wednesday, October 14, 2020, at the KNUST School of Business in Kumasi where Rex Omar and his administration will outline all the things they have done in their tenure.
