We expected to win, but the margins Surprised us – Mahama Ayariga

Majority Leader in Parliament, Mahama Ayariga has reflected on the party’s remarkable performance in the recent elections.

Speaking with Bernard Avle on Channel One’s Point of View program monitored by MyNewsGH, Ayariga admitted the outcome exceeded their expectations.

“We haven’t met since the election, that’s true. I’m sure the outcome even shocked you,” he began, addressing the results.

“We expected to win, but we were surprised that the margin was that significant. Particularly in the parliamentary results, we knew people were dissatisfied with the performance of the NPP as a government.

We also knew they wanted the NDC, but we didn’t expect to win the number of seats we won,” Ayariga shared candidly.

He explained that the significant margins of victory in many constituencies left the party pleasantly surprised.

“In the constituencies we won, the margins that each member of parliament won with were very significant, and that surprised us.”

The results demonstrated a widespread pattern of dissatisfaction with the NPP across the country.

Ayariga highlighted the dominance of the NDC in regions such as Upper East and Upper West, saying, “You can just see that it was a general pattern of Ghanaians being totally dissatisfied with the NPP as a government and deciding to give the NDC an opportunity.”
