Election 2024: Reject desperate Bawumia – Fifi Kwetey
The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, has urged voters to reject Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), in the upcoming elections.
Speaking in an interview on Channel One TV’s The Point of View, Kwetey accused Dr. Bawumia of attempting to distance himself from the economic hardships and mismanagement that occurred under his leadership as the head of the government’s Economic Management Team.
Kwetey argued that while Dr. Bawumia has been quick to claim credit for any perceived successes during his tenure, he has failed to take responsibility for the severe challenges currently faced by the Ghanaian people.
According to him, this selective acknowledgement undermines the credibility of Dr. Bawumia’s candidacy and his ability to lead effectively.
“As far as this election is concerned, you have a situation where you have a candidate on the NPP [Bawumia], who is trying very hard to distance himself from the difficulties and at the same time trying to take advantage of the limited successes. You see a real conundrum here, he’s not got the courage to own up to the problem and say this has been me, I have been part of this driving and the processes I own it. I’m responsible. But no, I’m not responsible for the minuses, but the positive ones, he says it’s my policy, it’s my contributions.”
He accused Bawumia of attempting to deceive the country with lies, describing him as “desperate”.
“We’ve seen Prof Mills as vice president, and we’ve seen John Mahama as Vice President, they never ran away from the collective situations. But here is a candidate who actually thinks that he’s smart, who’s trying to play the country and pretending he’s not part of the difficulty. But he wants to take advantage of the pluses and that speaks to character.
“It tells you that this is an individual who is simply desperate, who will do anything for power, who will lie if he has to. He has convenient lies and so on. The issue of character becomes important.”
