‘We are not against the EC correcting mistakes’ – Kodua Frimpong

The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Kodua Frimpong, has clarified that the party supports calls for an audit of the 2024 voters register but insists the process must be carried out in accordance with the law.

He noted that while it is important to ensure transparency and accuracy in the voter register, the Electoral Commission (EC) should follow legal procedures in addressing such concerns.

Mr Kodua Frimpong’s comments came after the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) organised a nationwide demonstration on September 17, 2024, under the banner “Enough is Enough.”

The protest was aimed at drawing attention to alleged discrepancies in the 2024 general election voters register, with the NDC calling for a forensic audit of both the register and the EC’s IT systems.

In an interview with Citi FM on Thursday, September 19, the NPP General Secretary acknowledged that the NDC’s concerns were valid but emphasised that the EC has consistently adhered to legal guidelines in handling such matters.

He stressed that this legal approach must be maintained as the election draws closer to ensure fairness and credibility.

Mr Kodua Frimpong added that the NPP is committed to a transparent electoral process and will continue to support initiatives that strengthen the integrity of the election, as long as they are done within the framework of the law.

“We are not against the EC correcting mistakes [in the voters register] if there are any but what we are saying is that the corrections are to be done through the voters register exhibition exercise and this is backed by law and the law states clearly what needs to be done.

“There will always be laws and the EC has always followed that law to have mistakes corrected,” he stated.
