42% of voters who took bribe from NPP voted NDC in the Assin North by-election – GIA

Global InfoAnalytics exit polls conducted in Assin North constituency suggests 42% of voters who were induced by the ruling New Patriotic Party, NPP voted for the National Democratic Congress, NDC’s candidate, James Gyakye Quayson while 58% voted for Charles Opoku, NPP’s candidate.

The findings also revealed that 73% of NDC induced voters voted for James Gyakye Quayson and 27% voted for the NPP candidate.

Of those who were induced by both parties, 61% voted the NDC’s candidate and 39% did the NPP’s candidate.

Though Charles Opoku initially led among young voters by 10%, he finally lost that demography by whopping 40% to Quayson. Also, of the 18% of voters from 18 to 24 who indicated that they were going to participate in the election, only 8% actually voted to the disadvantage of the NPP candidate.

Also, the perception that James Gyakye Quayson is being persecuted by Government contributed significantly to NPP losing the election as 91% indicated, that influence their decision to vote for Quayson. 81% and 18% who were not happy about the vote buying vulgarity voted for Quayson and Opoku respectively.

The polls sample size is 5428 with 95% confidence level and +4.18 Margin of Error. The Electoral Commission’s 2020 voters register was used as sample frame.

Six (6) out of eighteen (18) electoral areas were randomly selected and allocated a quota based on total voters in each of those electoral areas. Field interviews were conducted on 7th July, 2023.

Only voters who actually voted were interviewed.
