It’s a disgrace that Wiyaala was not invited to Year of Return concerts – Manager

Wiyaala’s manager, John Sherren, has expressed displeasure about the absence of his artiste in all the concerts that were organised last year during the Year of Return celebration.

Reacting to a post by arts writer Arnold Asamoah Baidoo, he said his artiste has not received the needed support in Ghana.

He also dispelled claims that Wiyaala is more “out there” on the international music scene than in Ghana.

This comes after Wiyaala went on a tirade yesterday in an Instagram video to call out music producer JMJ and entertainment critic Arnold Asamoah Baidoo for saying that she was more focused on marketing her brand abroad than in Ghana.

I watched it again. You are saying that JMJ should not have given Wiyaala a shout out because “In Ghana, Wiyaala is not out there” and “she is not paying attention to what is transpiring in Ghana” Nothing could be further from the truth. If you were to analyse Wiyaala’s activities in her community and engagement stats on Facebook you would quickly realise she is more popular and admired by Ghanaians than the industry realises. Her shares, comments and likes stand comparison with any artist, male or female in Ghana. She may not be “out there” with the “industry” in Accra, but she certainly is with the general Ghanaian public. They appreciate the fact that she is a genuinely talented entertainer, whilst being authentic and “honest’ in an industry that is palpably corrupt worldwide. Thank you for saying you can not disrespect her brand. But I think you (and your peers) should do more to promote her brand as a genuine world class contender. It was disgraceful that Ruddy Kwakye and his colleagues did not invite Wiyaala to be part of Year of Return Concerts. You said it yourself “No Challenger! Wiyaala is Ghana’s Best Live Performer”. And in that, you clearly spoke the truth.
