Frances Essiam of NPP sparks outrage, insulting Beatrice Annan of NDC on live TV

During the broadcast of Metro TV’s “Good Morning Ghana” show on Monday, August 14, 2023, Frances Essiam, a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), vehemently opposed Beatrice Annan of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for suggesting that the Bank of Ghana (BoG) and the Economic Management Team of the Government acted unlawfully, resulting in the GHC 60.8 billion loss the BoG incurred in the 2022 financial year.

Annan had accused the Finance Minister and the Governor of intentionally violating the public financial management act by overspending without legal limits and attempting to write off the Government’s debts without parliamentary approval.

Frances Essiam responded with frustration, criticizing Annan for her comments: “…What have you done for Ghana that gives you the right to speak nonsense? What do you mean?… You come here all polished, with a bright face, and start insulting people? She (Beatrice Annan) is a criminal… You’re labelling a whole political party as criminals?… It’s offensive to call a group of people lawless. Are you their equal? Are you from their background? To call Ken Ofori-Atta lawless? She’s spreading baseless propaganda. You don’t have any credible evidence,” she interjected.

Despite the host’s attempts to restore order, and while a stunned Beatrice Annan remained silent, Essiam continued: “But for a young lady like you to sit here and label people as lawless? As a lawyer, what evidence do you have? Concrete evidence?” She exclaimed.

In response, Beatrice Annan calmly acknowledged the insults but stated that she had no further response, except to emphasize that she wouldn’t let herself be used to revive someone’s political career.

“She can’t use me to resurrect her dead political career. That’s something I won’t allow,” Beatrice Annan emphasized.

Frances Essiam’s reaction to this retort only escalated the situation further. She insisted that Annan didn’t have a dead career and that she wasn’t interested in any elective position within the NPP.

The show continued with Ms. Essiam continuing to interrupt and voice her opinions throughout the discussion.
