Sad News! Soldiers involved in gory accident

Some soldiers have been involved in a gory accident at Anum Apapam in the Eastern Region.

The military personnel traveling on six vehicles were returning from an operation in the Obuoho portion of the Atewa Forest Thursday June 9,2022 in the morning. The area is notorious for illegal mining and logging.

One of the vehicles however crashed and somersaulted.

The victims were rushed to the Obuoho Health Center but later ambulances  with Doctors and Nurses from the 37 Military Hospital arrived and took the victims away.

Videos and images capturing the accident scene show many of the military officers lying motionless with blood oozing from their injuries .

In the video, Some residents were seen helping to lift the accident vehicle from some of the victims.

The Ghana Armed Forces in a statement on the accident said: “About 16 military personnel sustained various degrees of injuries and were initially treated at Anum Apapam clinic before being evacuated to the 37 Military Hospital for further treatment. The Military High Command has visited the personnel on admission and as at this morning, 12 out of the injured personnel had been discharged while the remaining four (4) are in a stable condition and responding to treatment.

“The Ghana Armed Forces wishes to express its appreciation to the residents of Anum Apapam and the surrounding areas and the Apapam Clinic Staff who came to the aid of the injured personnel, and also the National Ambulance Service for the swift evacuation of the victims to the 37 Military Hospital”.

The In -charge of the Health Center Mrs.Patience Arthur confirmed the accident but refused to disclosed any further information stating that she has not been permitted to speak on the accident .

A resident in Obuoho told Starr News the military officers aboard six speeding pick-up vehicles drove through the community towards the Atewa Forest stretch but later had information that one of the vehicles had been involved in an accident .

She said some of the victims were seriously injured fearing some may not survive.

The Eastern Regional MTTD Commander Superintendent Stephen Ahiatafu said ,he was yet to receive report on the accident when contacted .
