Akosombo Dam spillage: Young lady volunteers free lessons for displaced children in Mepe
Residents of Mepe are working to recover from the stress and loss they experienced when their homes were submerged by flooding.
This comes after the Volta River Authority (VRA) opened the spillways of the Akosombo and Kpong dams.
Mepe is one of the towns in the Volta Region that has been significantly impacted by flooding. It is among the eight districts along the Lower Volta Basin that have been the most seriously affected.
To house the families upstream who have been displaced by this disaster, several structures have been transformed into emergency shelters.
Schools have also been closed in the region while displaced locals there mourn their losses in temporary shelters.
But a recent high school graduate is making use of the free time by instructing the now-idle children.
Twenty-year-old Gertrude Nutsukpui devotes her time to teaching free lessons to youngsters who have also been relocated in the North Tongu District in one of the safe havens.
