    WAEC Releases 2024 WASSCE Results

    The West African Examination Council has released results for the 2024 West African Senior High School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

    The release comes weeks after WAEC announced their inability to release the results due to government’s indebtedness to the examination body.

    Government,however, released some funds to offset debts owed WAEC after the Education Minister, Dr Yaw Adutwum visited the offices of the examination body.

    Per the results, apart from Core Mathematics, there has been a declines in passes in various core subjects compared to the 2024 results.

    President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will address the nation on January 3, 2025.

    His address in Parliament is expected to be presented at 10am promptly.

    This will be the last address by the president as he leaves office following the expiration his tenure.

    Also, the 8th Parliament will dissolve on January 6, 2025 after which the 9th Parliament will reconvene to elect the Speaker and Deputy Speakers.

    Right to Play hands over Centre of Excellence to St Teresa’s College of Education

    Right to Play, a non-governmental organization has commissioned and handed over a refurbished resource centre to improve upon teaching and learning.

    The project in partnership with the St Teresa’s College of Education (TERESCO), Hohoe will position tutors and student teachers in the use of Playful teaching approaches.

    Mr Maxwell Denakpor, Right to Play Project Officer, Volta Region, said the Centre would be a hub for training and professional development.

    He said it was the belief that through the Centre, senior tutors, tutors, teachers and student teachers would receive extensive training, equipping them with the necessary skills and tools to thrive in modern classrooms.

    Mr Denakpor said a cornerstone of the Organisation’s partnership initiative with the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) was the development of a Play-based Learning Manual.

    “This manual wil serve as a comprehensive guide for pre-Service teachers. It offers clear strategies, techniques and activities to support the implementation of play-based learning in classrooms”.

    Mr Denakpor said the manual provided both foundational understanding of the importance of play in early childhood education and practical, actionable steps for teachers to apply.

    He said the UEW through the Play Leads would make Play-based Learning Manual readily available to all College tutors to enable them build capacity to support teacher trainees develop and update their pedagogical skills.

    Mr Denakpor said the commissioned Centre was opening the door to a future of playful learning that was engaging, inclusive and trans formative.

    He said the Organisation remained committed to ensuring that play-based learning became a central part of early childhood and Primary education across the country as stakeholders continued to develop and refine approach to teacher education.

    Dr Maxwell Seyram Kumah, Vice Principal, St Teresa’s College of Education, said the Centre would help train student teachers so that by the time they were going to the field, they would come out as the 21st century teachers who would use creative approaches of learning through use of smart boards, ICT integration and technological education.

    He said the Centre was also made available for partner schools in the Hohoe Municipality including basic schools.

    Dr Kumah said the College in an MoU with the Education Directorate would train teachers while schools would also have the chance to visit the Centre.

    He said the College would ensure an effective maintenance culture of the facility to ensure that it served the purpose for a very long time.

    Mr Victor Kwaku Kovey, Hohoe Municipal Education Director, expressed gratitude to Right to Play for the Centre which was of a kind in the Region under the public education.

    He said he believed the Centre would be put in good and effective use to reflect the purpose of its establishment in the improvement of teachers and learners in the Municipality.

    Mr Kovey called on the resource persons to maintain a culture of maintenance to prevent any defect of the facility.

    He appealed to Right to Play and other philanthropists to provide a generator for the Centre to ensure that it was in use all the time.

    Ntim to NPP supporters: The party will rise again after 2024 loss

    The national chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Stephen Ntim, has urged NPP members and sympathisers to remain resolute and determined in the wake of the party’s defeat in the 2024 general election, noting that the NPP will rise again.

    Addressing the press on the outcome of the election for the party at the NPP headquarters in Asylum Down, Accra on Monday (23 December), Ntim described the experience as challenging but reaffirmed the NPP’s resilience and readiness to bounce back stronger.

    “Indeed, this is a difficult time for us as a party. But we are a resilient people. We must, and we will, rise again from this defeat. We are reorganising ourselves for the battles of tomorrow,” Ntim said.

    He encouraged members not to lose hope, saying: “Fellow party members, this means we cannot give up. We must engage [with] the restructuring process with all the energy we can master to get the elephant trumpeting again. Kukrudu!!! Kukrudu!!! Kukruuuuduuu!!!”

    Appreciation

    Reflecting on the party’s efforts leading up to the 2024 polls, the NPP chair highlighted the dedication of the NPP leadership, campaign teams and the broader membership.

    He noted that the party entered the elections with immense hope and positivity, aiming for a decisive victory at the polls.

    “Our aim was to secure an emphatic victory, and we worked very hard at it,” Ntim said. “As a party, we put in our best effort during the campaign.”

    He commended the various campaign teams, from the polling station level to the national level, for their dedication and relentless work.

    He also expressed gratitude to all members and sympathisers of the NPP for their tireless commitment to the campaign, emphasising their indispensable role in the party’s efforts.

    Outcome

    Despite the hard work, Ntim admitted that the election results were not as the party wished.

    “There is no doubt that the outcome of the elections was not what we hoped for. We may not have won the battle, but we haven’t lost the war in our quest for a better Ghana, shaped by the ideals and philosophies of the NPP,” he said.

    He acknowledged the pain and disappointment experienced by party members and supporters, stating that the leadership shared in their anguish.

    “We understand your disappointments because we feel it, too, just as the hundreds of thousands of Ghanaians who invested their hopes and dreams in this campaign do,” he declared.

    Unity and restructuring

    Ntim called on members to stay united and channel their energies into the party’s efforts to restructure.

    He stressed that the setbacks faced should be seen as an opportunity to rebuild, refocus and prepare for future battles.

    “We must not let this defeat discourage us,” he said. “Instead, it should galvanise us to work harder, correct our mistakes, and ensure that the NPP regains its footing as the party of choice for Ghanaians.”

    KK Fosu marked his 25th anniversary in the music industry with a heartwarming concert at the Bayview Hotel, Accra.

    Music enthusiasts of Highlife music gathered to honour the musician, whose career has been defined by timeless hits and an enduring legacy.

    The night began with a grand entrance of KK Fosu led onto the stage by Reggie Rockstone, the “Godfather of Hiplife.” 

    The two legends reminisced about their collaboration on the award-winning song “Fa Me Bone Kye Me,” sharing stories of how they created the hit that still resonates with fans.

    KK Fosu, dressed in an elegant blend of traditional and modern Ghanaian attire, performed some of his hits such as “Anadwo Yede,” “Odo Nti,” and “6 O’clock.” The crowd sang along, reliving the magic of his music yesteryears.

    Midway through his performance, KK Fosu invited legendary Highlife artiste Pat Thomas to join him on stage.

    Together, they delivered a breathtaking rendition of their hit song “Odo De Da Me.” Pat Thomas, known as the “Golden Voice of Africa,” mesmerised the audience with his impeccable vocals, creating a memorable moment for patrons.

    The event was graced by several notable personalities, including Pappy Kojo, who joined the celebration and shared in the joy of the evening. Other celebrities such as legendary musician Bessa Simons, Abeiku Santana, and Deloris Frimpong Manso, popularly known as Delay, also attended, adding star power to the night.

    KK Fosu expressed heartfelt gratitude to his fans, dedicating special performances to key supporters, including business mogul Dr. Manfred Takyi, CEO of Joy Daddy Industries for honouring his contribution to Ghana’s music industry with a concert.

    NPP sacks 280 members including incumbent MP Cynthia Morrison

    A total of 280 members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Agona West Constituency of the Central Region have been sacked from the party for breaking party allegiance.

    Among the dismissed members is the incumbent Member of Parliament for Agona West, Cynthia Mamle Morrison, who broke away from the party to contest the 2024 parliamentary election as an independent candidate.

    The 279 others are members of the party who supported Cynthia Morrison’s candidacy and therefore the dismissal is in line with the party’s rules on breaking allegiance.

    Their dismissals were communicated in a letter addressed to the General Secretary of the NPP and signed by the constituency chairman, Alhaji Gibrine Tanko.

    The letter formally notified the expelled members and the national office of the NPP that they are no longer recognised as members of the party and are barred from holding party positions, participating in party activities, or using its symbols and flag.

    C Confion, a rising star who shone brightly as part of Dr. Likee’s (Akabenezer) comedy troupe, had been battling a critical illness.

    Ghana’s vibrant comedy scene is dimmed today by the passing of Bright Owusu, the beloved actor known by fans as C Confion.

    News of his passing on December 20, 2024, spread quickly, leaving colleagues and fans heartbroken.

    C Confion, a rising star who shone brightly as part of Dr. Likee’s (Akabenezer) comedy troupe, had been battling a critical illness.

    Just days prior, on December 18th, Akabenezer Productions released a statement confirming C Confion was receiving treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. The statement, while acknowledging the seriousness of his condition, also expressed hope and requested prayers from fans.
